Wissahikon Park on 8×10

This is my first body of work, made with an 8×10 camera and photographed in Wissahickon Valley Park as my junior project at Drexel. The series was shot on 8×10 Tri-X 320, developed by hand, and printed on Ilford warm-tone fiber-based darkroom paper. The main goal of this project was to familiarize myself with the entire process, as it serves as preparation for my upcoming senior thesis, where I will be printing in 8×10 platinum.

I came to large format because I work slowly; even 4×5 felt too fast. I’ve long been told that I photograph “from the neck up,” and I never understood what it truly meant to shoot intuitively until I started working with the 8×10. This project has been an eye-opening introduction to the kind of darkroom-filled future I’m moving toward.
